Making A Pedestal Dining Table

A pedestal dining table offers everyone a place to sit with the ability to see each other, but whoever feels the legs have a less comfortable meal. You can solve this problem by making a pedestal dining table, which will allow everyone to have legroom. This project requires only a few tools and materials, and can be completed in an afternoon.

Cut a circle in plywood 1 inch (2.5 cm) with the saw. The diameter should be three-quarters the size of the table, and will be the base of the pedestal dining table. Place metal flanges 3 inches (7.5 cm) in the center of the pedestal base. Make marks on the screw locations with a pencil.

Pedestal dining table; make pilot holes to drill 1/16 at each pencil mark. Sand the entire surface of the plywood with 120 grit sandpaper to remove any imperfections left by the saw or drill. Screw the flange to the base of the pedestal with screws 1 inch (2.5 cm). The thickness of the flange will prevent the screws out the other side of the plywood. Drill pilot holes into the pencil marks, being careful not to cross the table. Screwing the second flange to the underside of the table, with screws that go with the width of the table.
